how high to mount projector screen

MOUNTING YOUR PROJECTOR SCREEN

The single most important thing to consider when mounting your projector screen is how high it needs to be mounted. This is mostly determined by the size of your projector and the type of image you want. If you mount your screen too high, light will not reach all the parts of the image, creating distortion and washed out colors. If you mount it too low, not only will there be a large gray area around objects but it won't give a good view either.

The best way to determine how high to mount your screen is to measure the distance between your television (or computer monitor) and the screen from front to back. Then measure from the front edge of the screen to the ceiling above you. This is called the effective height.

There are two main methods for mounting aprojector screen:

1. Ceiling mount: most common, fast, convenient but not recommended for viewing a wide area of room. If you're mounting a ceiling-mounted screen, make sure that there are no people or objects above it that need to be visible (such as above your kitchen counter). It doesn't matter if they're seen through your projection but they are not supposed to be visible. Mounting your projector up high shortens the distance the light will travel, which makes for a clearer picture. But that doesn't mean that you should just mount yours at eye level and call it a day. You'll need to measure how far your projected image is from the screen when it's at its largest point, and then determine how high from the ground you should mount your projector based on those measurements. Simply take half of the difference between their heights and add them together, then round to find out how many feet high you need to put your projector. For example, if your projector screen is five feet off the ground and the image you project is about three feet high, add three and five to figure out that it's 8 feet from the ground to the top of your image. When figuring from inches, just multiply the height of your screen by 12 and then divide that in half before adding it to your projector height. For example, if you have a seven-foot screen and a four-foot image, you need a 20-foot projector height. Projectors are ideal if you want to enjoy movies on massive screens. With projectors, you have more control of where you place the screen and have more room for viewers who don't like sitting at close seats. But before you go shopping, there are certain factors that will determine how great your viewing experience is going to be. A few things that might recommend some models over others include resolution, brightness and connectivity options. We will tell you how to choose the best projector for your home.

What is a projector?

The concept of projectors is not new. The first movie theatre projectors were invented in the early 20th century by Charles Rockwell Day and Thomas Edison. But over the years, projectors have evolved and are now used for many other purposes such as displaying computer images and video games. They come in different shapes, sizes, brightness and wattage depending on their function. A projector also has a bulb which illuminates its screen when turned on (the bulb is usually very small).
